If you mention Christmas and beer in the same sentence around the brewery staff you’ll notice they start to shake and hide in the corner. It all seems like a blur at the time but we vividly remember how exhausted we were come Christmas Eve. We go from super excited that it’s almost Christmas in early November to OMG do we have enough beer left for New Years Eve and January? Here’s a pic from the 2018 archives with only 4 lonely batches of cider on the shelf in the coldroom on Christmas Eve and a few empty kegs kicking around. Barely enough to get through a few days.
So when we say BOOK YOUR BEER EARLY we mean it!!!
Wishing you all a Beery Christmas and a Hoppy New Year.
Books and Beer
There are a few simple pleasures in life that I get excited about, Beer.(of course) food (particularly stinky cheese) and books. I’m an avid reader so always have couple of books on the go at one time. I’m excited to be presenting a FREE event in conjunction with our local library this week about two of my favourite things….Books and Beer. Grab your tickets online
Have a listen to the radio interview that aired on ABC Tropical North Radio this week about the session.

Lending a Hand
Goanna Brewing received a call from the Julia Creek Hotel a few weeks ago looking to buy a keg fridge. Why would a pub want a keg fridge we wondered?
It turns out the publican was putting on a party of free beer and a bb for the local community that was doing it tough in the face of the north queensland flooding. He needed a keg fridge to put in the beer garden so the families could enjoy the party too.
We’d heard about the devastation caused by the flooding up north so were eager to help out by donating a keg fridge to the community. So if you are ever passing through Julia Creek, drop in for a cold one and check out the Goanna Brewing beer fridge out the back.

Beer and Cheese
Most of you have met Goanna Brewings Chief Bottle Washer, Linda, but did you know shes a cheese fanatic?
Weekend afternoons are a quiet beer in the back yard with a platter of cheese…the smellier the cheese the better.
When we opened the brewery one of the first things I researched was beer and food. Matching beer with food, cooking with beer, beer cocktails. Then I stumbled upon beer and cheese matching and I was in heaven.
The concepts are the same as cheese and wine. Once you understand the principles it’s just a matter of experimenting with your favourite beers and cheeses. You discover some surprising matches.
There is usually a keg of Goanna Pacific Ale in our keg fridge. With it’s intense aromas it’s a great match for the stronger flavoured cheeses.
I’m excited to be running another beer and cheese matching masterclass at our Members Event in March. We had so much fun at our last session.
What’s Brew Crew drinking this Easter?
Andy and Linda are off in the van to do a bit of camping with Pacific Goanna and Little Animals on menu.
Helena and her hubby are going to check out the 4WD weekend at Cathu with Fourmen in their keg.
Tammie’s stuck at home with the kids…hence the cartons of beer.
Hayley’s inviting Tammie over for drinks…no you can’t take that 50 litre keg home with you.
St Patrick’s Day
When you think of St Patrick’s day, the first beer that comes to mind is usually Guinness. In fact 60% of beers consumed in Ireland are lagers, not stouts. Goanna Brewing knows our Beer Hunters like a lager or two as well, which is why we’ve brought you two of the most popular brews from our menu for St Patrick’s Day this year.
#9 Irish Lager and #37 Who Kill Kenny for those who prefer a bit of body to their brew.
